Sabres win game, lose Vanek
TheFourthPeriod.com

Sabres forward and leading goal-scorer Thomas Vanek was injured during Tuesday's 3-1 against the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Center, the Buffalo News reports.

The 28-year-old appeared to suffer an upper-body injury during the first period and did not return to the contest.

"He's going to be out for a period of time. ... Our initial thought is maybe a week, but our doctor is going to have to evaluate it," coach Lindy Ruff told the News. "It's the type of injury we're going to have to dig a little deeper on."

In 50 games with the Sabres this season, Vanek has collected 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points.

Meanwhile, forward Tyler Ennis, who had been out since reinjuring his left ankle on Dec. 17, returned to the lineup on Tuesday. In a change, the left winger skated at center in the middle of right wing Drew Stafford and left wing Nathan Gerbe, but failed to record a point.
