The Buffalo Sabres wanted to make a significant move to shake up their roster this summer, but it now appears they'll be sitting tight.
A well-placed source told TFP last month the Sabres had been trying to acquire a "top-tier player," presumably an offensive-minded defenseman, but came up short.
Sabres GM Darcy Regier has been relatively quiet of late, with the exception of trying to sign depth centerman.
On Saturday, the Sabres signed free agent center Cody McCormick, seemingly their last move before the start of training camp.
"I think that most of our change will come will come from within," Regier told radio station AM640 in Toronto on Friday.
It has been widely reported that the Sabres are looking to add another blueliner, however, Regier indicated such a move was unlikely.
"Everyone would like an offensive defenseman, we lost (Jaroslav) Spacek (to free agency), but we'll probably look inside for help," he said.
It remains possible the Sabres could come across a trade they deem acceptable, such a move isn't expected until the pre-season is well underway, if one happens at all.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo News reports former Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov has generated no interest from other teams.
Afinogenov, an unrestricted free agent, made $3.5 million last season.
