Bruins extend GM Chiarelli's contract

The Boston Bruins have signed General Manager Peter Chiarelli to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Chiarelli will also continue serving as an Alternate Governor on the NHL's Board of Governors.

Chiarelli will enter his eighth season with Boston in 2013-14 after becoming the Bruins seventh GM on May 26, 2006.

In the previous seven seasons, the Bruins have qualified for the playoffs six times with Chiarelli at the helm and have compiled a 50-35 post-season record, which includes a Stanley Cup championship in 2011 and an Eastern Conference Championship in 2013.

Chiarelli became just the third GM in club history to win a Stanley Cup, joining both Art Ross (1929, 1939, 1941) and Milt Schmidt (1970 and 1972).

Prior to joining the Bruins in 2006, Chiarelli spent seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators, five as the Director of Legal Relations and two as the Assistant GM.
