Ryder, 32, could become available if the Stars fall out of playoff contention. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this July and is currently earning a $3.5 million annual cap hit, which the Bruins could take on.
Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli would most likely have to give up draft picks to land a winger like Ryder, but could also offer several young prospects.
In 16 games with the Stars this season, Ryder has posted four goals and five assists for nine points.
Meanwhile, TSN has reported that the Bruins could also target Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, if the Senators fall out of the playoff race and Alfredsson is willing to accept a deal out of town.
