Marchand signs extension

The Boston Bruins have signed forward Brad Marchand to a four-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.

Marchand's contract will be worth an average of $4.5 million annually over the four years of his deal.

Last season, the native of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia registered NHL career highs in goals (28), assists (27) and points (55) in 76 games.

For his career, Marchand has played in 173 games with Boston, registering 49 goals and 48 assists for 97 points, with 158 penalty minutes.

Marchand was drafted by Boston in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
