Bruins after forward, defenseman TheFourthPeriod.com
The Bruins are hoping to add a second or third line forward and a veteran defenseman before tomorrow's trade deadline, the Boston Globe reports.
Globe national hockey writer Kevin Paul Dupont spoke with Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, who told him he remains optimistic that he can add a roster player or two prior to the deadline.
"I think those deals are there to do," Chiarelli told the paper. "You're never sure, but....I'd like to be further along in some of these discussions, down to the short strokes, but yes, right now, I think we are getting closer and there are one or two deals we could close."
Chiarelli maintained that he doesn't want to deal a player off of his roster, and appears willing to part with draft picks and prospects.
According to the Globe, the Bruins could target center Sammy Palhsson and defenseman Jaroslav Spacek.
"My motivating factors are, first of all, depth," said Chiarelli. "And then injury, especially to our forwards. Both Nathan (Horton) and (Rich Peverley) remain out, and though we expect both are going to be back, you have to make sure you are covered."
