The Boston Bruins want to get center Marc Savard locked up to a new long-term contract, however contract negotiations between the two parties isn't going very well.
During Saturday night's The Hotstove segment on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, the panel discussed how both the Bruins and Savard would like to get a deal done, but talks aren't going swimmingly.
Savard, who makes $5 million this year, is believed to be asking for upwards of $6.5 million per season on a new deal.
The panel speculated that the Maple Leafs might pursue Savard if he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, as Savard's family lives near Toronto.

I can't see Savard not getting close to, if not exactly, $6.5 million on the open market this summer. Whether he's willing to take a "hometown" discount is anybody's guess. Talks have been ongoing and they'll continue throughout the season. Savard does like Boston, and the Bruins aren't in that big of a rush to sign him. -- David Pagnotta
