Bruins acquire Auld from Coyotes TheFourthPeriod.com
The Boston Bruins have acquired goaltender Alex Auld from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for left wing Nate DiCasmirro and the Bruins fifth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Auld, 26, has appeared in nine games for Phoenix this year, registering a record of 3-6-0 and a 3.54 goals-against-average. He has also played in two games for Phoenix's AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, where he had 1-1-0 record and a 2.53 goals-against-average.
In his NHL career, Auld has played in 117 games, maintaining a record of 49-50-2-11, a goals-against-average of 2.94 and a .901 save percentage.
Auld was originally selected in the second-round (40th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers.
DiCasmirro signed with the Bruins as a free agent on July 17, 2006. Over the past two seasons with the Providence Bruins (AHL), he has played in 88 games, tallying 12 goals and 21 assists.
The acquisition of Auld allows the Bruins to send Tuukka Rask to the AHL so he can play on a full-time basis. Rask has proven he's NHL-ready, but with Tim Thomas in Boston, he won't be able to play regularly. Auld is a decent back-up to Thomas and a solid addition for the team.
