Coyotes interested in Stepan

The Arizona Coyotes have expressed interest in acquiring center Derek Stepan from the New York Rangers, according to reports.

As reported by TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, the Coyotes have "serious interest" in Stepan, whom the Rangers are looking to move ahead of tomorrow's 3pm ET roster freeze.

TFP reported on Wednesday that in addition to the Coyotes, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes may also explore the possibility of acquiring Stepan, whose no-trade clause does not kick-in until July 1.

Stepan, 26, has four-years left on his contract, which comes with a $6.5 million salary cap hit.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported Friday afternoon the Rangers would want "first pair" defenseman for Stepan.

The Hurricanes are willing to trade one of their young defensemen in a deal for a top-six forward, preferably a center, but it's unclear if trade talks have escalated between them and the Rangers.
