Group trying to keep Thrashers in Atlanta

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that there is one group in "active negotiations" with the Atlanta Spirit to try and keep the Thrashers from moving.

Thrashers President Don Waddell has been speaking with the group, which is not based in Atlanta, but no deal is imminent.

True North Sports and Entertainment continues its talks with Atlanta Spirit about purchasing the Thrashers and moving them to Winnipeg.

"My job is to try to find a buyer who will keep the team in Atlanta," Waddell told the Journal-Constitution. "As long as they keep taking my phone calls, I'll keep working."

TFP has learned that talks between Atlanta Spirit and True North Sports and Entertainment began several weeks ago, as True North Sports and Entertainment began to weigh its options in the event the were unsuccessful in purchasing the Phoenix Coyotes.

With the Coyotes staying in Phoenix for at least another season, True North Sports and Entertainment increased its efforts to purchase the Thrashers.
