With the Thrashers positioned in eighth spot in the East, two points ahead of the Hurricanes, GM Rick Dudley is looking to make at least one deal before the Feb. 28 trade deadline that will improve his lineup.
The Thrashers are in the market for a top-six forward and a second-pairing defenseman. It's believed New Jersey Devils veteran Jason Arnott could be an option for Atlanta, if he is willing to waive his no-movement clause. He is making $4.5 million this season, but his cap hit to any team that acquires him would be based on his remaining salary at the date of a trade.
Arnott, who can also play the right wing, has expressed his desire to play for a playoff contender, but he has not publicly stated which teams he would accept a trade to.
The Thrashers are also reportedly eyeing the likes of Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Kris Versteeg, Buffalo Sabres center Tim Connolly, and Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jim Vandermeer.
