Trade discussions surrounding Atlanta Thrashers star forward Ilya Kovalchuk appear to be quieting down, reports the Ottawa Sun.
The Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings are all interested in Kovalchuk, though the paper suggests the Hawks and Flyers don't consider themselves contenders.
Thrashers GM Don Waddell was in Philadelphia on Saturday and it's believed his asking price is too high.
"The Thrashers are in the same position as the Panthers were last year with Jay Bouwmeester," an unnamed league source told the Sun. "The Panthers kept holding onto him and holding onto him, then they had nobody at the deadline who wanted to make the deal."
If Kovalchuk isn't moved by the Mar. 3 trade deadline, the Thrashers will continue their attempts to re-sign him prior the summer's NHL Entry Draft.
Contract talks between the Thrashers and Kovalchuk's camp haven't broke off, but negotiations aren't bearing fruit.
