Thrashers lose out on Campbell TheFourthPeriod.com
The Atlanta Thrashers tried hard to sign defenseman Brian Campbell, offering more money, but ultimately lost out to the Chicago Blackhawks.
According to sources, the Thrashers offered more than the $7.1 million annual salary the Hawks gave Campbell.
Thrashers GM Don Waddell will now shift his focus on other potential targets, including Ron Hainsey and Dmitri Kalinin.
A trade may also be possible, as reports suggest the Thrashers are interested in Toronto Maple Leafs blueliner Pavel Kubina.
Another area the Thrashers would like to improve upon is the forward position, as they're believed to be pursuing a top center and a second-line forward.
