"When we're not playing very well, those are the guys who can turn it around very quickly," said Thrashers goalie Kari Lehtonen. "They can make one great goal and everything turns around. They're world class players.
"Kozlov has been a little bit under the radar for a couple years now. He's unbelievable. He showed it (last night when he scored two goals against Toronto). We're very happy to have him here."
The Thrashers, winners of five in-a-row, have been dominating the National Hockey League with their excellent mindset and fantastic will to win.
In yesterday's victory over the Maple Leafs, Altanta was down 2-0 heading into the second intermission. Less than eight minutes into the third period, the game was tied. Twelve minutes and two Kozlov goals later, they Thrashers walked away with a 5-2 win.
While Leafs head coach Paul Maurice tried to understand how his team blew a 2-0 lead, Lehtonen, who was given the night off in favor of backup Johan Hedberg, offered his two cents on the comeback.
"We work very hard," he said. "We never give up. I think that pays off. We still believe when nobody else does."
Head coach Bob Hartley attributes last night's come from behind win and the club's overall success to his player's never-give-up attitude.
"We came back so many times since the start of the season," Hartley said. "Our conditioning is unbelievable. The credit has to go to the players. From day one of training camp, those guys were ready to go and right now it's paying off huge dividends for us.
"We're staying focused, we're staying on the job. We always feel we have a chance to come back."
Kozlov, who finished the night with three points, scored the game-tying and game-winning goals only four minutes and 13 seconds apart.
"When Glen (Metropolit) scored in the third period, it gave us life," Kozlov said. "We started forechecking more ... it was a big comeback for us."
The Thrashers, first in the Southeast, are seven-points ahead of the second-place Carolina Hurricanes and Kozlov's leadership and offensive production (the 14-year NHL veteran is on pace to record a career-high 96 points) will undoubtedly help the team secure first place come April.
