Ducks trying to re-sign Lovejoy

The Anaheim Ducks are hoping to come to terms on a new contract with defenseman Ben Lovely, the Orange County Register reports.

Lovejoy, 29, was acquired from Pittsburgh on Feb. 6, and has impressed the Ducks this year, collecting 10 assists in 35 games.

Lovejoy's agent, Robert Murray, confirmed to the Register via email that he and the Ducks "have had ongoing discussions."

Murray wouldn't comment any further, with respect to negotiations.

If unsigned by July 5, Lovejoy can test the waters as an unrestricted free agent, something the Ducks are hoping doesn't happen.
