According to the Orange County Register, the Ducks will now give youngster Peter Holland the opportunity to command the second line.
But according to a source close to the Ducks organization, GM Bob Murray wants to bring in some extra fire power from outside the club.
The Ducks have shown an interest in Dallas Stars center Derek Roy and Washington Capitals center Mike Ribeiro, though a deal is not imminent.
Ribeiro's considering re-signing with the Capitals, as the team battles for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. If he's unable to come to terms on a new contract, Washington will trade him; the Capitals are believed to be looking for a top young prospect and a high draft pick.
Both Roy and Ribeiro are scheduled to become unrestricted free agent this July.
Some reports suggest the Ducks have spoken with Philadelphia about shipping Ryan to the Flyers for a package involving center Sean Couturier, but many believe that deal won't happen, at least not this season.
