Giguere frustrated as backup

Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere wants to play on a regular basis for Anaheim, but his role with the team has changed, the Orange County Register reports.

Giguere lost his No.1 starter's job to Jonas Hiller and while he would welcome a trade, the veteran backstop is trying to remain positive.

"You're mentally pushing yourself, trying to stay with it and trying to stay positive," Giguere told the Register. "The day-to-day grind of it is exhausting. But you know, it's the situation. I believe I can grow from it and I can be a better player from this kind of situation."

The Ducks have explored trade possibilities involving Giguere, but his $6 million cap hit has prevented a move from happening.

"You've got to be a team guy and you've got to accept your role, and this is the role I've been given right now," Giguere said. "But it doesn't mean that I'm going to accept it in a way. I'm going to push for more. I'm going to strive for more. I'm not going to give up on wanting to be a No. 1 goalie. This is why I play this game. It's to play. So I'm not going to give up on that."

Giguere has one-more year on his contract beyond this season.

I don't know what kind of move can be made involving Giguere, unless a top draft pick or player/prospect is added to the mix. The Ducks are weighing all their options and haven't decided whether they'll be selling or buying come trade deadline. They'll have a better indication in the next couple of weeks. -- David Pagnotta
