The Anaheim Ducks have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Steve Eminger to a two-year contract.

"Steve Eminger brings a physical presence to our blueline and is very capable offensively," said Ducks GM Bob Murray. "Being only 25 years old, we expect him to continue improving as a player and make a solid contribution this season."

Eminger, 25, has played in 283 career NHL games, scoring 11 goals, 58 assists and 271 penalty minutes. He played in 71 NHL games last season with Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Florida, scoring five goals and 21 assists.

A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Eminger was drafted by Washington in the first round (12th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The Ducks also acquired left wing Shawn Weller from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for right wing Jason Bailey.

Weller, 23, played for the Binghamton Senators last season, Ottawa's AHL affiliate. He was originally selected by Ottawa in the third round (77th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Bailey, 22, appeared in 35 games with Bakersfield (ECHL) in his first professional season in 2008-09, scoring 4-6=10 points with 44 PIM. He was picked by Anaheim in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
