The Anaheim Ducks have finally found a new home for veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider.
Schneider, 39, has been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for defenseman Ken Klee, left wing Brad Larsen and left wing Chad Painchaud.
Schneider, who is in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $5.625 million, appeared in 65 games for Anaheim last season and registered 12 goals and 27 assists for 39 points.
Selected by Montreal in the third round (44th overall) of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Schneider has appeared in 1,197 career NHL games over 20 seasons. He has collected 212 goals and 490 assists for 702 points with Montreal, NY Islanders, Toronto, NY Rangers, Los Angeles, Detroit and Anaheim. He won the Stanley Cup in 1992-93 as a member of the Canadiens.
Klee, 37, appeared in 72 contests with Atlanta in 2007-08, earning one goal and nine assists.
A veteran of 863 NHL games with five clubs (Washington, Toronto, New Jersey, Colorado and Atlanta), Klee has collected 54 goals, 130 assists and 852 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by Washington in the ninth round (177th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.
Larsen, 31, appeared in 62 contests with Atlanta in 2007-08, earning a goal, three assists and 12 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 294 career NHL contests with Colorado and Atlanta, earning 19 goals, 29 assists and 134 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by Colorado in the fourth round (87th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry draft.
Painchaud, 22, split the 2007-08 season with Chicago (AHL) and Gwinnett (ECHL). The native of Mississauga, Ontario was drafted by Atlanta in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
