Ducks sign free-agent Schneider

TheFourthPeriod.com

TFP has learned that the Anaheim Ducks have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Mathieu Schneider to a two-year contract worth $11.25 million.

A source confirmed to TFP that Schneider will earn $5.5 million next season and $5.75 million in 2008-09.

Schneider, 38, was a member of the Detroit Red Wings last season and registered 11 goals and 41 assists in 68 games.

The New York, NY native has played in 1,132 career regular-season games and has accumulated 200 goals, 463 assists and 1,115 penalty minutes.

The Red Wings offered Schneider a contract prior to the start of free agency, but with their tight budget were not able to match a deal similar to what the Ducks gave him.

Schneider was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third-round (44th overall) in 1987.
