Ducks re-sign Giguere TheFourthPeriod.com
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they have re-signed goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere to a four-year, $24 million contract.
Giguere, 30, led the Ducks to the 2007 Stanley Cup Championship, posting a 13-4 record in the playoffs.
"J.S. Giguere has been an instrumental part of this franchise for the last six years," said Ducks GM Brian Burke. "We view him as one of the top goaltenders in the NHL today, one with tremendous character and competitive fire, traits we value greatly in this organization."
A native of Montreal, Giguere played in 56 regular season games in 2006-2007, posting a 36-10-8 record, 2.26 goals-against-average and .918 save percentage. His 36 wins set a new franchise record and career high, while his 10 regulation losses were the fewest of any NHL goaltender to play in 50+ games.
"I'm very excited to be staying with the Ducks," said Giguere. "Orange County has been a great place for my family over the last six years, and we are grateful to the entire organization for the opportunity to stay here."
This signing was a no-brainer for both parties. Giguere wanted to stay, and the Ducks certainly wanted to keep him. Next up... Teemu Selanne's future, and possibly Scott Niedermayer's.
