High-Flying Canucks
By Darryl Dobbs, TheFourthPeriod.com

Here's the best tip a roto-hockey pool owner can get right now: pick up some Canucks, immediately!

The boys in Vancouver are winning big, scoring big, and about to play St. Louis and Columbus (Monday and Tuesday, respectively).

The Canucks have both their top two lines rolling now, and have peeled off four straight wins via 22 goals. The top line of Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Brendan Morrison has combined for 15 points in that span, and they haven't even been the most dominant line offensively for the Canucks!

The Sedin twins, Henrik and Daniel, have finally found an effective sidekick in Anson Carter. Those three have combined for 18 points during the four game winning streak. The 25-year-old Sedins have shown steady progress during their stint in the NHL, and while it is more common for a player to bust out offensively in his fourth season, the twins have decided to wait until season five.

That's not to say that they have been stagnant these last four years. Quite the opposite. Their production has improved each and every season they have been in the league. Henrik had seasons of 29, 36, 39, and 42 points respectively – the latter actually happening in just 76 games. This season he has 45 already. Daniel's story is similar, having seasons of 34, 32, and 31 before busting out with 54 in 2003-04. His points may have stayed similar his first three seasons, but his all-around game was shaping up. He is on pace for 67 points. If Carter and the Sedins continue their pace, they will end the season with a combined 198 points – and isn't that the ideal second line production?

As already stated above, the Canucks play four games in six days, kicking it off with tilts against the lowly Blues and the (almost as) lowly Blue Jackets. Now's the time to pick them up.

Meanwhile...

...
Canuck defenseman Ed Jovanovski has missed ten games with a groin pull, but is back skating. I don't see him back before Thursday, so he will miss the games against St. Louis and Columbus. Nolan Baumgartner (eight points in nine games) has replaced Jovo-Cop on the point on the powerplay, and is a suitable replacement for your rotisserie league.

...
Okay, those poolies in keeper leagues that are still holding onto this guy (and I know a few of you) - cut him loose. At 28, Brad Isbister will never show the promise as a power forward that he once hinted at. With 42 points in 64 games as a 23-year-old, you could almost see Todd Bertuzzi-like potential. Give up. Now! He is pointless in ten games and on pace for 26 this year. His penalty minutes don't even justify a roster spot in those keeper leagues that count them.
