Home Sweet Home
By Darryl Dobbs, TheFourthPeriod.com

Rotisserie league team owners need to know how many home games are coming up over the next week for each one of their players.

While home and road performance have almost no value for running a keeper league team, this information is gold in roto leagues if used properly.

There are a handful of players that significantly step it up in the confines of their own arena, and conversely there are some players that are true road warriors.

The top offensive performer on the road this year so far is Atlanta's Marc Savard. His 41 points in 24 games at Philips Arena pales in comparison to his 21 points in 22 games on enemy ice. Almost TWO points per game at home... and not even ONE point per game on the road! If Atlanta goes on a four game home stand, which they don't have until March 4th, there would be no player better to own on your team. Roto owners take note: Atlanta plays four out of five games at home beginning on Saturday, January 21st to end the month.

San Jose's Joe Thornton is another example. He's notched 38 points in 21 home games (going back to his Boston days), and 23 points in 20 games on the road.

The two defensemen that like home the most? Wade Redden of Ottawa and Ed Jovanovski of Vancouver. That's right – "Jovo-Cop" likes patrolling the ice in GM Place more than any other ice surface. Twenty-two points in 20 home games versus six points in 17 road games for Jovanovski, and 22 points in 17 home games for Redden against 12 in 16 on the road.

Other big performers at home (and not so big on the road) include Brendan Morrison of Vancouver, Mikael Samuelsson of Detroit, Alexei Kovalev of Montreal, and Mike Sillinger of St. Louis.

Meanwhile...

...
Rookies Jeff Carter (Philadelphia), Ryan Whitney (Pittsburgh), and Mikko Koivu (Minnesota) have been off the scoresheet lately. Carter and Whitney are pointless in their last six, while Koivu is pointless in seven...

...
Boston's Milan Jurcina does not have a whole lot of offensive upside, but he does have all five of his goals this season in the last four games...

...It took Radim Vrbata a couple of games to get rolling in Chicago, but now seems to have found his groove. He has five points in his last six now for the Blackhawks.
