2008 MOCK DRAFT

The 2008 NHL Entry Draft (June 20-21, Ottawa) is loaded with talent. Outside of top-rated Steven Stamkos heading to Tampa Bay, the rest of the draft is unknown as teams try to move up and select the prospect they've had their eyes on for the entire season.

TFP and the International Scouting Service offer this year's Mock Draft, with selections based on team needs and which player might fit best within a club's system.
(As of JUNE 19)

No. TEAM PLAYER COMMENTS
1. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING Steve Stamkos, C
(Sarnia Sting - OHL)
The rebuild in Tampa begins, first-line type player who makes everybody around him a better hockey player.
ISS Rank: 1 | ISS comparison: Joe Sakic
2. LOS ANGELES KINGS Zach Bogosian, D
(Peterborough Petes - OHL)
The Peterborough Pete’s workhorse will help replace Blake and nice compliment to Jack Johnson.
ISS Rank: 2 | ISS comparison: Dion Phaneuf
3. ATLANTA THRASHERS Drew Doughty, D
(Guelph Storm - OHL)
Filatov intrigues the Thrashers, but a stud on the blue line wins out.

ISS Rank: 4 | ISS comparison: Brian Campbell
4. ST. LOUIS BLUES Luke Schenn, D
(Kelowna Rockets)
Shut down defenseman that can step right in and take some pressure off Erik Johnson.

ISS Rank: 6 | ISS comparison: Adam Foote
5. NEW YORK ISLANDERS Nikita Filatov, LW (Moscow CSKA2 – Russ. Di) Game breaker! Just what the NYI need. He really wants to impact the game and wants the puck on his stick at crunch time.
ISS Rank: 3 | ISS comparison: Nikolai Zherdev
6. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS Alex Pietrangelo, D (Niagara Ice Dogs - OHL) He's a huge kid with tremendous vision and passing skills who could also become a fine PP point man.
ISS Rank: 5 | ISS comparison: Jay Bouwmeester
7. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS Mikkel Boedker, LW
(Kitchener Rangers - OHL)
Choice between Hodgson and Boedker. Leafs finally get it right and select speedster from Denmark.
ISS Rank: 7 | ISS comparison: Marian Gaborik
8. PHOENIX COYOTES Tyler Myers, D
(Kelowna Rockets - WHL)
He has huge upside and can skate which makes him intriguing.

ISS Rank: 15 | ISS comparison: Zdeno Chara
9. NASHVILLE PREDATORS
(from Florida Panthers)
Colin Wilson, C
(Boston University – Hockey East U.S. College)
A safe bet. He had a great NHL Combine.

ISS Rank: 8 | ISS comparison: Mike Richards
10. VANCOUVER CANUCKS Joe Colborne, LW (Camrose Kodiaks – AJHL) Look for New GM Mike Gillis to try and hit HR. Should be a great prospect.

ISS Rank: 16 | ISS comparison: Jason Arnott
11. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS Colten Teubert, D
(Regina Pats - WHL)
Another hard guy to play against and is still improving. He plays with an edge and makes players pay a price when they come to the net.
ISS Rank: 18 | ISS comparison: Robin Regehr
12. ANAHEIM DUCKS

(HV71 – SwedenJE)
Another speedster that will be more effective with the new NHL rules.

ISS Rank: 14 | ISS comparison: Denis Savard
18. OTTAWA SENATORS Jake Allen, G
(St. John's Fog Devils - QMJHL)

ISS Rank (Goalies): 4 | ISS comparison: N/A
19. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
(from Colorado Avalanche)
John Carlson, D
(Indiana Ice – USHL)
Bad finish to the season but has all of the tools.

ISS Rank: 21 | ISS comparison: Bryan McCabe
20. NEW YORK RANGERS Kirill Petrov, LW
(Kazan – Russ. Di)
The lack of a transfer agreement is the biggest reason he slips this far. He has good skating ability and a frame that project well at the NHL level.
ISS Rank: 17 | ISS comparison: Ryan Getzlaf
