Real-time blog: Trade Deadline '08
TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta offers real-time updates as of 20 hours leading up to the 2008 NHL Trade Deadline, starting at 7pm ET on Monday Feb. 25.
On the day of the trade deadline (Feb. 26), updates will be on TFP's home page.

[TORONTO, ON] -- Considering how I won't be sleeping much tonight, I figured I'd offer up some of the news and rumors coming through the TFP newsroom.

On a sidenote, be sure to tune in to our LIVE radio broadcast, streaming online, tomorrow from 11am-4pm ET.

Join host Dan Kingerski tomorrow during the trade deadline. I'll be dropping by from time to time, and Dan will also be joined by TFP Columnists Greg Wyshynski and Dennis Bernstein. Our NHL Analysts (and former NHLers) Todd Hlushko, Todd Harvey and Ron Tugnutt will be dropping by to offer their expert analysis.

Now, on to the goods (be sure to refresh/reload this page for up-to-the-minute updates):

8:42am ET - Jump on the main page for more updates!

8:41am ET - Sharks, Devils and Hurricanes have expressed an interest in Edmonton goalie Dwayne Roloson.

8:35am ET - Toronto has 3 offers on the table for Bryan McCabe. The Leafs could be very active today, despite all the no-trade clauses. Matt Stajan, Nik Antropov, Hal Gill, Alex Ponikarovsky and Jason Blake could all be moved. Dallas likes their forwards, Detroit likes Gill.

8:23am ET - The Blackhawks are very active looking to make a few moves. As I mentioned yesterday, Martin Lapointe is gone. We'll know more on that later. New Jersey is interested in Robert Lang. The Hawks are very much in the Richards sweepstakes. The Penguins really want Tuomo Ruutu... there could be quite a few changes in Chicago.

8:15am ET - Back to Richards, Tampa has offers from Dallas, Columbus, Chicago and Vancouver. Edmonton was in the mix, but that's no long the case.

8:09am ET - The Brad Richards sweepstakes could be finised up later this morning. Lightning GM Jay Feaster continues to review the offers and is closing in on making his decision. On the Brian Campbell front, it looks like he's as good as gone. His agent, Larry Kelly, told the Buffalo News yesterday that Campbell's finished in Buffalo.

7:41am ET - Looks like the Islanders and Mike Comrie have signed that 1-year deal discussed last night. With Comrie inked, Miro Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko are goners.

7:30am ET - Here we go! With less than 3-hours of sleep in me, I can't wait for the 3pm deadline. There's plenty of talk this morning and all signs point to this being a busy day.

1:59am ET - Gotta love trade deadline time! Almost 2am, and still wide awake (thanks to several brands of coffee and energy drinks - I don't recommend it). I'll be back first thing in the morning, around 7am, with fresh updates.

1:34am ET - Martin Lapointe has been traded from Chicago. Details to be available later this morning.

12:57am ET - The Colorado Avalanche is the second team Blake will accept a trade to. The other, as reported earlier, is the San Jose Sharks.

12:35am ET (Feb. 26) - It continues to be a relatively wild night. TSN is reporting that the Islanders are close to signing Mike Comrie to a 1-year extension. A number of teams have inquired about Comrie, as well as Miro Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko. Two of the three are expected to be traded by today's 3pm deadline.

11:16pm ET (Feb. 25) - The Rob Blake game continues... From what I've been told, Blake has agreed to waive his no-trade clause to two Western Conference teams. According to an LA-based source, one of the team's is San Jose, while the other not yet known. Detroit, Colorado and Anaheim all expressed an interest. After speaking with TFP Columnist Dennis Bernstein, it doesn't appear as if the Ducks are in the mix... they're looking for a centerman. New Jersey was also hot for Blake, but they don't appear likely at this stage.

10:59pm ET - Flyers aren't finished. Prospal's cap hit is minimal (total salary is only $1.9 million), and Philly is expected to make at least one more move before tomorrow's 3pm ET deadline.

10:26pm ET - It appears as though the Lightning could be making another announcement tomorrow, as a trade for Brad Richards is close to being finalized. Also, the Habs continue their attempts to land Marian Hossa. They're in a tight race, so I'm told, and this issue will be resolved tomorrow. The Prospal trade could give the Habs incentive to deal some of their young talent in the AHL (Grabovski).

10:02pm ET - Let the games begin! With Boyle locked up, the Lightning also traded Vinny Prospal to Philadelphia. The first of many to come... we hope!

10:01pm ET - Phone rings and what do I hear? Tampa has re-signed Dan Boyle for 6-years. Waiting on financials, but it's worth more than $6.5M per season, from what I'm told. Also, this just about spells the end for Richards in TB.

9:25pm ET - Penguins have set their sights on Chicago's Tuomo Ruutu. The team was eyeing Martin Havlat, although it appears the Pens are unwilling to part with Jordan Staal.

9:14pm ET - I've received a few emails asking about Marty Lapointe. A quick update: The Blackhawks had 3 offers on the table for Lapointe as of earlier today. He will be moved, could happen as early as tonight, but likely to be finalized tomorrow morning.

8:48pm ET - The Sharks are trying to get their hands on a top-level forward and remain in the Olli Jokinen sweepstakes. The Panthers are not eager to move Jokinen before the deadline, but if the right offer came along, they'd seriously consider it. Patrick Marleau, Steve Bernier and Matt Carle are being used trade bait.

8:46pm ET - TSN reported a little earlier in one of their broadcasts that Bryan McCabe might not be the only Leaf who will consider waiving his no-trade clause. Pavel Kubina is being courted and he might accept a move, although he's already stated that he doesn't want to.

8:27pm ET - Lightning GM Jay Feaster is currently mulling over trade offers for Brad Richards. Richards and his agent, Pat Morris, will have the final say on which team he will be moved to. All signs point to Richards being traded tomorrow on deadline day.

7:51pm ET - Chicago has a deal in place to ship Martin Lapointe out of town. It remains to be finalized, although we should know the details as early as later tonight.

7:25pm ET - It looks like the Rangers are not in serious talks for Bryan McCabe of the Maple Leafs. The Islanders, Flyers, Hurricanes and Blackhawks have expressed an interest. McCabe said earlier today that he doesn't want to leave Toronto, but that he'd at least listen to his options.

7:08pm ET - I've been told, on good authority, that while Montreal's Chris Higgins' name has popped up in trade rumors, the Canadiens aren't very interested in trading him. Look for the likes of Kyle Chipchura and Mikhail Grabovski to be moved if the Habs get their hands on a big fish (Hossa, anyone?). Higgins could still be moved, although I was told it's unlikely.

7:00pm ET - Let the games begin. Already today, we found out that Alex Tanguay wasn't going anywhere and Peter Forsberg has joined the Colorado Avalanche. Along with Mats Sundin, that's three big players out of the race. The hunt for Atlanta's Marian Hossa, Florida's Olli Jokinen and Tampa's Brad Richards is going to be VERY interesting.
