The Blackhawks gave Eric Daze a qualifying contract offer before today's deadline at 10% over the $3.2 million he earned last season, reports the Chicago Daily Herald.
But what some think GM Bob Pulford and the Hawks did not need to do was make Daze's offer two-way, meaning the veteran winger would make a minor-league salary in the unlikely event he was assigned to Norfolk.
Not only did the Hawks give Daze a two-way qualifying offer, they did the same with goalie Jocelyn Thibault and defenseman Bryan Berard.
"Of course, it's disappointing," agent Bob Sauve, who represents both Daze & Thibault, told the paper.
"I wish it didn't happen, but nothing surprises me anymore in this league. We're just going to assess the situation and go from there. We'll just see what happens with these offers."
What the Hawks did could make Thibault and Daze take a dimmer view of continuing to play for the Hawks.
