The Ottawa Senators have hired Travis Green as their new head coach, signing him to a four-year contract.

Green will be introduced as Ottawa’s new bench boss alongside GM Steve Staios and Senators owner Michael Andlauer on Wednesday.

“After speaking to several highly qualified candidates, it became clear that Travis is the right fit to lead our group,” said Staios. “As we’ve routinely stated, developing a winning culture is paramount to our aspiration of achieving sustained success. Travis has a burning desire to win, is passionate about teaching and holds his players to a very high standard. We’re excited to welcome he and his family to the Ottawa-Gatineau community.”

Staios has been on the hunt for a new coach since the off-season began, and first interviewed Green at the end of April.

Green had been with the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach before being elevated to interim head coach on March 4, replacing Lindy Ruff.

Green spent parts of five seasons as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks from 2017-18 through part of the 2021-22 campaign.

Over 335 career NHL regular-season games as a coach with the Canucks and Devils, Green compiled a record of 141-159-35.
