DESHARNAIS CONTRACT TALKS PUT ON PAUSE

The Edmonton Oilers have been engaged in contract negotiations with physical defenceman Vincent Desharnais, but those conversations are being put on the backburner with the playoffs around the corner.

As reported by TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, contract talks “are on hold for now” and will get back underway after Edmonton’s playoff run has come to a conclusion.

Desharnais, 27, is in the final year of a two-year, $1.525 million contract and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this July.

It certainly seems like Oilers GM Ken Holland has made it a priority to get Desharnais locked up to a new deal and the two sides should be able to come to terms on an agreement in due time, as Desharnais hopes to stay in Edmonton well beyond this season.

In 73 games with the Oilers so far this season, Desharnais has registered one goal and 10 assists for 11 points, along with 54 penalty minutes.

The Oilers have just over $14.233 million in salary cap space for the 2024-25 season.
